Vaughan Oliver

Vaughan Oliver is one of the most influential and well-loved graphic designers in the music industry. Born in 1957 in Sedgefield, England, he has been designing record and album covers for more than thirty years. He has founded two studios; ’23 Envelope’, founded with a photographer, and ‘V23’, in collaboration with another designer, Chris Briggs.
Vaughan Oliver was passionate about both design and music from a very young age. After studying graphic design at the University of Northumbria he then moved to London, where he is based today.
His way of creatively mixing photography, typography and graphic design in a harmonious way to represent the music in the album is the main reason why he is so popular. His use of many textures and old photography, giving the albums a very vintage style, which is the complete opposite to the clean-cut, simplistic style of design that I, personally, find inspirational.
