The same year he graduated from Glasgow School of Art, in 1994, he won the MacMillan's Children's Book Prize for 'The Sea Hole', which was the first book he had ever written! Even though his illustration style is cartoon he used a lot of texture to his work, which I think gives them more depth and character, unlike illustrations that use flat colours.
Other than drawing children's books he creates theatre posters, does talks and works for Laika and Disney doing character development. So far he has written more than a dozen books and illustrated over a hundred, and one of his books, Elephantom, has been adapted for theatre.
