Carl Edwards' presentation was very practical and applicable, also very blunt and to the point, but he got through a lot of helpful advice. He was talking about that step from graduation to getting that first job, giving tips on things like portfolios and choosing and getting the job you want. He was well equipped to do a talk on this as he must have a huge amount of knowledge on the subject because he has been in the industry at least twenty years and has interviewed hundreds of people.
One point he made that I found particularly interesting was that when you apply for the jobs you want research is key for success. Find out all you can about the company, the people they employ, their previous work they have done, and basically interview appearing very knowledgeable about them, and they might realise how much you want this job.
Another thing I would like to do at some point, that he mentioned as a great way to promote yourself, was to get a mailer that is memorable and fun.
