David Hughes

Known for his satirical drawing style, David Hughes, is an illustrator and designer, born the mid 1950's in Twickenham. He attended Twickenham's Technical College and graduated from his four year course in illustration.
Most of his illustrations are initially done in pen and ink without actually doing any roughs in pencil first, as he claims it makes the project challenging therefore producing a higher standard and quality of work. I think the foundation of his style is his use of caricature, he constructs his characters by distorting and exaggerating their physical features to give them the appearance and concept of absurdity.
His satiric work is mostly based on certain topics, in particular politics, war and social problems. Some of his most well known works are caricatures of Prime Ministers and the British Monarchy, like Tony Blair, Margret Thatcher, Prince Charles and others. The results of his illustrative method are comic and even grotesque, but still portray that there is
meaning and purpose behind the drawings.
