John Neilson - Lettercarving in stone and lettering design

I enjoyed John Neilson talk, I found it inspiring and made me really want to try letter carving. He started with an introduction and history of stone lettering, he explained about the different typeface styles and techniques. Then went on to talk about his own work, like gravestones, monuments plaques etc.
On a carving weekend he had been on with other letter carvers in Mid Wales, he carved a quote onto a 'cliff' next to Lake Vyrnwy, which I thought was amazing. He had brought some examples of how he traced the words onto the stone and a half done word carved into slate.
I think what he does is beautiful and amazing and has encouraged me to expand my own skills so my designs will be more creative and innovative.
