Michel Gondry

Michel GondryBorn in May 1963 in Versailles, Yvelines, Michel Gondry is a French film director, screenwriter, film producer and music video director, who works independently. He grew up in a creative and musical family; his grandfather being the inventor Constant Martin and his parents being musicians. He and his brother both went on to become film directors.
His career in film making started whilst a drummer in the rock band ‘Oui oui’. He began to direct the music videos for their songs. After this he started to be noticed by other bands and began directing music videos and commercials in London and then in New York.
Gondry has now gone on to direct over thirty films and eighty music videos. Known for his innovative style and his original way of using a visual theme, he has won a huge amount of awards for his work, including an Oscar in 2005 for Best Writing, Original Screenplay for the film ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’. He was also nominated for a BAFTA for the same film in 2005.
