Andrea Hilditch is a career adviser here at Glyndwr University. In her lecture she gave tips and advice on finding the evidence needed for your CVs and applications, thus making them the best they can be. I found her session's title 'Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?' was clever as it represented that we must self-reflect if we want to write a good CV. Also we want the people that read it to see an honest reflection of us.
Andrea's main point was that for every thing you say you are good at or the characteristics with which you describe yourself, all need backing up with evidence. She gave us a good technique for giving evidence in interviews and CV's.
The STAR technique to giving evidence:
S - Situation
T - Task
A - Action
R - Results
or R - relevance (how the situation is relevant)
Her talk was also quite interactive, especially since only eight people turned up! We followed the STAR process, and wrote on post-it-notes personal evidence to things like teamwork, mentoring and leadership. Overall I felt the session was really useful.
